KARACHI:

There was always something fishy about the ‘kernel saab’ harassing mole holders and fish mongers in the city’s ancient Machi Miyani Fish Market, locals said after his arrest on Thursday.

He would come in full uniform with four soldiers raising questions about hygiene, sanitation, and the pathetic conditions in which the seafood was sold in the market, only to take money from the poor fish vendors and stall holders, locals of the Kharadar neighbourhood told The Express Tribune.

Police and sleuths of an intelligence agency cast a net and hauled in the imposter colonel Abdul Latif and his four guards, Osama, Sheahbaz, Rizwan, and Abid in a joint operation.

Law enforcers seized four submachineguns, live rounds, and an expensive vehicle from the suspects. Besides military uniforms, police uniforms and other weapons were also recovered from the imposters who were booked in the Kharadar police station.

The imposter in his military uniform with fake soldiers (armed guards) was harassing the people and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) officials at the Machi Miyani Fish Market for quite some time, Kharadar police station SHO said.
