The business community is playing a key role in the economic development of the country and ICCI members will be included in the Senate’s foreign delegations so they can explore new markets to promote Pakistan’s exports, said Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani.
While exchanging views with a delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Thursday, he added that the business community should focus on Africa, ASEAN and other potential regions to improve Pakistan’s trade and exports.
“The business community should focus on non-traditional items,” he suggested to the delegation led by ICCI President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari. Deputy Chairman Senate Mirza Muhammad Afridi was also present at the occasion.
The senate chairman explained flourishing businesses and investment will enable the economy to grow stronger. He also expressed his desire to work with ICCI to resolve the issues being faced by the business community.
About the closure of Centaurus Mall, he said he fully supported its opening and would talk to the Federal Minister for Interior to resolve the issue soon. He also invited ICCI to cooperate with the senate in organising its golden jubilee celebration.
Speaking at the occasion, the ICCI president said that being the upper house of parliament, the Senate had a key role in legislation and requested that ICCI be given representation in its business-related Standing Committees including commerce, finance, planning and development and industries and production.
“It will help in making business friendly laws in consultation with the business community to make Pakistan an attractive destination for investment,” he remarked.
Bakhtawari also assured the senate chairman of ICCI’s cooperation in organising and celebrating the senate’s golden jubilee event.
