KARACHI:

Departmental action has been initiated against more than 100 police personnel for being complacent in the sale of narcotics within the jurisdictions of their police stations, according to a list released by AIG Establishment, Shad Ibne Masih.

As many as 115 police officers, who were stationed in different districts, ranges, and units of Sindh, have been taken into custody and sent to the Sindh Reserve Police (SRP) because they were allegedly patronising drug dealers.

The list released by AIG Ibne Masih includes 15 police officers from Karachi Range, 64 from Hyderabad, 20 from Mirpurkhas, 13 from Sukkur, and three from Larkana Range.

In Karachi Range, the accused police officers from districts west, central and Malir include head constables Jehangir, Imran Shabbir alias Arman Wasti, Umar, Amjad, Abdul Khaliq, and constable Shoaib Tanoli, Nadeem, alias Captain, Faizan Shah, Saifur Rehman, Mashuq Ali, Gulzeb, Kashif, Sattar, Naveed, and Rashid.

It is expected that the police high-ups might take strict disciplinary action against the police officers for aiding and abetting narcotics trade in Sindh.

Some police officers who were previously found involved in smuggling and selling drugs, gutka, mawa, and Iranian diesel, had not been transferred let alone suspended from service.

This lax attitude fails to create deterrence and corrupt officers in Sindh Police are not only promoted by their seniors but also reassigned to the police stations where they can continue with their illicit business without any fear of disciplinary action.
