'The Crown’ to handle Princess Diana’s death with ‘sensitivity’

The People's Princess will receive a respectable tribute in the sixth season.

As Netflix blockbuster The Crown is nearing its end, more questions arise regarding filming Princess Diana's tragic death. After much speculation, an insider revealed that the production crew desires "to get it right and handle it sensitively." Elizabeth Debicki will join the shooting shortly, presenting Diana's life in the regal chronology. 

Diana, also anointed as "the People's Princess" by Prime Minister Tony Blair, died at the young age of 36 in a vehicle collision at the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, France, yet her legacy persists to date. Diana's companion, Dodi Fayed and the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class driver, Henri Paul, were both declared dead at the site as well. 

It's been established that the producers of The Crown have no intention of showing the actual crash itself on screen, but they do aim to depict events leading up to the disaster and its immediate aftermath.

The Netflix series is now filming its sixth and possibly last season, making way for more recent royal tragedies to be shown on screen. Storylines from the life of the British royal family have always been selected and creatively presented by the producers.

The fifth season is set for release on 9 November 2022. The Crown is expected to be one of the costliest television shows ever with a whopping $260 million production budget as of 2020. The show will also star Pakistani superstar Humayun Saeed as Doctor Hasnat in the upcoming season.
