PARACHINAR:

Four people were killed and at least ten other were injured in clashes between two rival factions over a land dispute in Kurram tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Wednesday.

District officials told The Express Tribune that fighting started on Tuesday and officials were sent to the area to stop further bloodshed but the groups fired at the vehicle of additional deputy commissioner too. They even fired rockets at Parachinar city which damaged several houses and caused widespread panic.

Civil society started a sit-in against the clash in order to force the authorities to take action and stop the bloody clash on Tuesday. Both the groups yesterday agreed to a cease fire but during the night sporadic fire continued between the two groups.

On Wednesday, however, authorities and security forces reached the area and issued a warning to the warring factions after which both of them abandoned their mountain top positions and security forces took control of the mountains. “Both the factions are from the same Turi clan who are trying to get control of Shamilat land,” said an official, adding that the factions targeted not only the authorities’ vehicles but also passersby.
