Court allows return of essential items of use to Gill

Sessions court allows returning ID and ATM cards; says police empowered to keep disputed items in custody

ISLAMABAD:

A local court on Thursday observed that the police was empowered to keep Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill's disputed items in its custody.

Hearing the PTI leader's plea about being returned his passport among other belongings after being granted bail, Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Supra ordered only to return Gill items of daily use. These included his identity card, ATM card and glasses among others stuff.

Lawyer Ali Bukhari appeared on behalf of the PTI leader, whereas Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi also appeared before the court.

The court adjourned further hearing of the case till October 11.

Earlier, Gill had filed a petition in a local court in Islamabad, seeking custody of his passport and other items.

The petition stated that he had been granted bail yet his personal use stuff was in the custody of the police.

His items include a passport, a green card, ATM cards and mobile phones.

PTI chairman Imran Khan’s chief of staff has been nominated as an accused in a first information report (FIR) registered against him for allegedly inciting mutiny within the armed forces during an interview with a TV channel.

Gill was taken into custody under a number of sections, including 124-A (sedition), 131 (abetting mutiny, or attempt to seduce a soldier, sailor or airman from his duty).
