CM vows justice in Model Town case

Decision to form JIT to be taken as per court orders

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi vowed on Saturday that all requirements of justice will be fulfilled in the Model Town police firing case.

Presiding over a meeting in which the matter was specially reviewed, he said the victims would be provided justice at any cost. Former federal minister Moonis Elahi, Punjab Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basharat Raja, Pakistan Awami Tehreek secretary general Khurram Nawaz Gandapur and Provincial Adviser Amir Saeed Rawn participated in the meeting which was also attended by Advocate General Ahmad Awais, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti, the provincial law secretary, PAT information secretary Noor Ullah Siddiqui and other officials and leaders.

The chief minister said it was the responsibility of the government to provide justice to the oppressed families.

He said those responsible for committing the Model Town tragedy would be brought to the court of law. “We will become successful before Allah Almighty and the people by fulfilling the responsibility of justice in the Model Town tragedy,” he added.

Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi vowed to take all possible steps to provide assistance to the families affected by the Model Town incident.

He said the decision to form a joint investigation team (JIT) would be taken in the light of court orders.

The chief minister said he had reached the spot after the incident and heard grievances of the affected people.

In another meeting, Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell Chairman Zubair Ahmad Khan briefed the CM about the steps being taken for redressing public complaints.

The chief minister called for redressing the public complaints forthwith and disposing of the applications submitted to the cell at the earliest. He directed the cell to address the applications within the prescribed time limit.

The CM said he had formulated a comprehensive plan of action to redress the public complaints during his previous tenure.

The applicants will get substantial relief with the whole system from the registration of a complaint till its redress being made online, he added.

He said the applicants should be updated at every step about the progress being made regarding their complaints, but indiscriminate action should be taken against those submitting baseless and false applications.

He emphasised that the law would come into action against those submitting false complaints, adding that legal action against such elements would help save precious time of the institution. Zubair Ahmad Khan also briefed the chief minister about the steps being taken to ensure availability of flour at the fixed price following public complaints from Rawalpindi.

In another development, Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi took notice of the murder of three women by setting them on fire in Rahim Yar Khan and sought a report about the incident from the inspector general of police.

He directed the police to ensure early provision of justice to the heirs of the deceased women.

The police arrested two suspects in the case after registering the case.

Felicitation for China

Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi felicitated the Chinese leadership and people on the National Day of the People’s Republic of China.

He said in a statement that the Chinese leadership had attained the destination of progress by the dint of hard work, resolve and determination.

China is a role model for doing away with corruption for the developing countries and moving forward its people towards prosperity by getting them out of poverty.
