PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly passed a resolution with a majority vote on Monday, demanding immediate arrest of Federal Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Javed Latif over his hate speech against former prime minister Imran Khan.

Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash presented a resolution during the session chaired by Deputy Speaker Mehmood Jan. The resolution said that the federal government, especially Javed Latif, were playing the religion card.

“This is an extremely dangerous trend,” Bangash told the house. “Imran Khan raised the voice against Islamophobia. This heinous conspiracy will be foiled by the people of Islam and the people of Pakistan,” he added.

In the past, the minister continued, people were killed after incitement of their religious sentiments. Federal minister Javed Latif must resign and he should be arrested immediately. “The federal government has become a laughing stock.”

Bangash said that the federal government was incapable of managing the economy as the dollar rate is continuously rising. “These people are afraid of Imran Khan’s popularity. They are plotting to kill Imran Khan. If you want to fight Imran Khan, come to the political arena.”

After the minister’s speech, the treasury benches adopted the resolution.
