The Madadgar-e-Sehat programme, deemed a unique project of its type in Punjab, was launched in Bhakkar.
The programme aims to ensure better maternal and child health in rural areas and will provide health facilities and medicines to millions of women at their doorsteps.
The 15-day training programme was inaugurated by the provincial minister for social welfare, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Khurram Shahzad. Female volunteers will be trained by expert doctors in maternal and pediatric healthcare.
Hundreds of thousands of women living in villages are expected to benefit from this facility.
DC Shahzad told The Express Tribune that the 15-day training program was started at Government Girls High School Dhengana in Tehsil Mankira, where female volunteers in the area would receive special training from female doctors regarding maternal and pediatric health. He added that the manpower of the district health department will also increase with this programme.
He also said the scope of the program will be expanded across the district.
The public said that the Madadgar-e-Sehat programme is a good addition to the healthcare sector and added that program will ensure medical facilities are readily available in more remote areas.
Earlier, women living in villages received treatment from untrained midwives, which proved dangerous and sometimes fatal for patients.
Health Chief Executive Officer Dr Rao Muhammad Sulaiman, District Coordinator MNRCH Program Dr. Nadeem Raza Syal and a large number of Madadgar volunteers were present.
