RAWALPINDI:

Police have taken a man into custody on charges of killing his brother, who happened to be a police cop, and was found dead at his residence in Mandar on Friday.

The victim was later identified as Malik Asif.

On Saturday, the police arrested the brother of the deceased and a weapon used in the murder was also recovered from his possession.

A case has been registered against the deceased's brother Rashid.

Earlier on Friday, head constable Malik Asif was found dead in his house after being apparently gunshot in his chest.

A case was registered against the complaint of the victim's brother. However, it turned out that the deceased's own brother Rashid was behind the killing, police sources said.

According to the preliminary investigation, Rashid had shot and killed his brother allegedly over a family dispute.

Police said that the suspect has confessed to the killing during the preliminary investigation.

Police said that 35-year-old Malik Asif was last posted in Police Lines Rawalpindi.

The police said the suspect will be produced in court to seek his physical remand.
