KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has dismissed a petition seeking action against some allegedly corrupt government officials who faced NAB references because the petitioner has stopped pursuing the case.

A two-judge bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar, took up the petition filed by MQM leader Kunwar Naveed Jameel and others seeking the removal of the "NAB-tainted" government officials from their posts.

The court dismissed the petition while remarking that the counsel for the petitioner, Salman Mujahid Baloch, has stopped pursuing the case as he has skipped several hearings.

The petition was filed by Kunwar Jameel seeking the removal of "corrupt" government officials facing NAB references.

Furthermore, a two-judge bench of the SHC, headed by Justice KK Agha, rejected the appeal of a convict against his death sentence in a murder case.

Kifayatullah was sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court in 2021. According to the prosecution, Kifayatullah had opened fire on Khushdil Khan inside the Malir Court premises on December 14, 2020.

Khushdil was in the waiting room to appear in court when Kifayatullah rushed in and took out a handgun and started firing. Kifayatullah was arrested and later he told police investigators that he had avenged the murder of his son, Ahsan.
