Capital City Police Officer Lahore (CCPO) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar on Monday claimed that police have arrested the prime suspect in the rape and consequent murder of minor girl in Manawan.
Flanked by the family of the deceased eight-year-old girl whose body was found in a swimming pool in Manawan after rape, the CCPO and other senior police officers addressed a crowded press conference at his office to announce arrest of the prime suspect.
The issue had become a high profile case after Mohmand Jirga community members had staged protest outside the Punjab Assembly as well the Ring Road.
Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi a few days back had a meeting with IG Punjab Faisal Shahkar and the CCPO to express his annoyance over the police performance in the case.
Addressing the conference, Dogar said it was a very tragic incident and people had started feeling insecure. It was a very disgusting and heart-breaking incident and such incidents should not happen in a civilized society.
