Mayor lists Peshawar’s beautification as a priority

Zubair wants the ‘city of gardens’ to smell like flowers

PESHAWAR:

Peshawar Mayor Haji Zubair Ali on Monday said that the development, restoration and beautification of the city of gardens is a priority and there will be no compromise on it.

Talking to traders and people during his visit to Chowk Yadgar and Sarafa Bazar, the mayor acknowledged the sincerity of the people in electing him and vowed to fulfil the promises by working day and night.

Expressing his indignation at the poor condition of the dome courtyard in Chowk Yadgar and the poor cleaning arrangements, he said that the chairman, elected councilors and the people should monitor maintenance work and immediately complain about the usage of poor materials.

“This city is ours and it belongs to the government officials as much as it is ours; we have to work together for its construction, development and quality maintenance,” he remarked.

Ali issued immediate orders for the decoration and repair work of the dome, its six pillars and the courtyard. He also ordered modern flooring for the historical Sarafa Bazar adjacent to it.

The officials of Sarafa Bazar Association and the business community thanked the mayor and said that he continuously helped the flood victims and tried to solve their problems by staying with them day and night.

They lauded him for visiting the monument and approving their longstanding wishes without any invitation or demand. They said that they were proud of his election as the mayor and hoped he will work on the beautification of other parts of Peshawar with the same spirit.

The mayor, while talking to traders, assured them that the corners of the historical city will be made exemplary in terms of cleanliness as well as construction and development and restoration of its grandeur.

He said that Peshawar is remembered as the city of flowers all over the world. “We are also driven by the same mission; it should smell like flowers everywhere,” he added.
