KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has put top police officials on notice on a petition seeking recovery of a woman, named Bushra Bibi, allegedly abducted more than a year ago.

A single-judge bench of Justice Salahuddin Panhwar issued notices to the Sindh IG police, Additional IG Karachi and SSP East and others on the petition filed by Liaquat Gabol Advocate on behalf of his client.

He submitted that his client's sister left home on June 29, 2021, but has not returned home since. A person, identifying himself as Khalid, called up his client to inform him that Bushra Bibi was with him.

The lawyer further submitted that his client then registered a case of abduction at Mubeena Town police station, but the police have not been able to recover his sister despite the passage of more than a year.

He alleged that the investigating officer (IO) has demanded Rs350,000 in bribe from his client.

After the initial hearing of the petition, the SHC bench issued notices to the IG police Sindh, Additional IG Karachi, SSP East and others to submit their replies.

In another case, a SHC bench granted bail to Farzana, who is accused of being involved in two robbery cases.

A Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar-led single-judge bench granted the bail after hearing arguments of defence lawyer Liaquat Ali Gabol Advocate, who stated that the plaintiffs had registered the cases against unknown persons.

He further argued that a lower court has also granted bail to his client in the two cases of robbery registered in Korangi. He added that nothing has been recovered from the accused.
