PESHAWAR:

District Returning Officer (DRO) for by-election in NA-31 Peshawar-V, Shahabuddin has issued notice to PTI Chairman Imran Khan for the use of public machinery in his election rally and ordered him to appear before Election Commission of Pakistan.

A notice was served on him on the charges of using official resources for public meeting, and participation of the public office holders including the K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in the Peshawar rally.

The DMO has summoned the PTI Chairman to clarify his position personally or through his counsel in office in Malak Plaza, Kohat Road on September 9, said a ECP press release issued here on Wednesday.

The DMO has also summoned Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Provincial Ministers Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Ishtiaq Urmar, Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, Kamran Bangash, Anwar Zeb Khan, Mohammad Iqbal Wazir, Special Assistants Mian Khaleequr Rehman and Wazir Zada to explain their position in person or through their counsel on September 9 at 10 am.

According to the code of conduct announced by the ECP for the ongoing by-election, the public office holders can neither participate in such kind of political activities nor can use official resources, otherwise legal proceedings under election laws would be initiated against them.

On the other hand Director General Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) Fayaz Ali Shah appeared before the ECP.

He had been summoned after videos of PDA machinery installing PTI flags on Ring Road ahead of Imran Khan’s election rally started making rounds on social media.

The DG admitted that PDA vehicles had been used for the purpose and informed ECP that three officials had been suspended for it and an inquiry has been launched against them.
