ISLAMABAD:

The Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) has started the next phase of the project to achieve the actual operational depth of the Gwadar Port, launching the process for awarding dredging contracts to the short-listed firms.

The GPA has already completed due diligence in this regard, and short-listed two companies – one Pakistani and one Hong Kong-based firm. Officials said that the purpose of the ‘Gwadar Pro’ was to start the de-silting operation.

“This will pave the way for construction of additional berths from the existing 602 meters to 1,500 meters,” the GPA project director for Maintenance of Dredging said.

“The frequent dredging will help maintain the 16 metres depth of the channel where any type of ship can enter.”
