Goods transporters have sought protection against snatching of food supplies and relief goods on the highways in Sindh which has been devastated by catastrophic floods and rains.
A delegation of transporters met with the Sindh police chief and also called for early repair of roads and better traffic management to allow smooth north-south traffic in the country. The eight-member delegation comprised officials and members of the All Pakistan Transport Alliance.
The delegation met IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon at the Central Police Office and discussed several issues, including relief to flood victims and making the travel of other goods carriers safe to Sindh and other provinces, and the problems being faced by them in this regard.
As many as 200 traffic officials have been deployed to maintain traffic flow at various places in Nawabshah. Meanwhile, three heavy lifter vehicles have also been put at the disposal of the traffic police to remove the damaged/stuck heavy vehicles from the roads on National, Indus and other highways.
IG Memon directed the police that the roads of Naushehro Feroze and Nawabshah, which are causing traffic jams or obstruction in the flow of traffic due to potholes, should be repaired immediately and the pits should be filled with crushed gravel and sand, etc.
The IG appreciated the spirit of transporters for helping the flood victims. He said that the order to provide security of the vehicles delivering relief items and agricultural commodities and daily-use items have been issued to all the DIGs and SSPs of Sindh.
