CM appeals for donations for flood-hit areas

The Punjab government has allocated Rs5 billion for rehabilitation of flood victims of South Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has also announced the establishment of Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund and appealed to philanthropists to contribute for early rehabilitation of flood victims. He said the government was trying to utilise all available resources for their rehabilitation. All donations collected in the fund will also be used for their rehabilitation.

Speaking to provincial minister and assembly members on Thursday, Elahi said entire machinery of the Punjab government is busy in relief and rehabilitation of the victims.

Punjab Chief Secretary Kamran Afzal is visiting different flood affected areas and monitoring relief and rehabilitation activities.

The chief minister expressed grief over lives and property loss in Taunsa, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur areas.

He said the devastation caused by floods cannot be described in words, however, the government will do everything possible humanly for providing relief to flood victims in this trying time. Their rehabilitation is the top priority and the government, he maintained.

The cooperation extended for rehabilitation of the victims by the Pakistan Army was commendable. Pakistan Army always helps the nation in any calamity. Both the civil and the military administrations are jointly conducting relief operations in the flood affected areas.

He thanked the Multan Core Commander for helping the nation in this difficult time and saving human lives.
