Efforts on to improve industrial competitiveness

Landmark master plan will help export sectors to achieve better productivity

ISLAMABAD:

Various rapid industrial transformation initiatives are being taken for sustained growth and development of the economy by improving industrial competitiveness, remarked Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Commerce and Industries Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Interim Review Workshop on the National Productivity Master Plan on Wednesday. The workshop was organised by the National Productivity Organisation (NPO) in collaboration with the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO), Japan and Korean Development Institute.

Khan called the master plan a landmark initiative that might help reorient requirements of the current era of competitiveness both in the domestic and global markets and support export sectors in enhancing competitiveness and achieving higher productivity. Appreciating the productivity master plan, he said the initiative would help prepare a strategic framework and action plan for the improvement of economy. “It will also help in complementing the recent initiative called ‘Turnaround Pakistan’, launched by the government for development of the country.”

The PM coordinator expressed satisfaction over the participation of a large and diverse group of stakeholders in the workshop and voiced hope that through the sharing of international experience, Pakistan would definitely achieve a comprehensive and consensus-based master plan for productivity. He said the development of the master plan would lead Pakistan towards better productivity in the key economic sectors including agriculture, services and industry, which would help achieve global competitiveness, raise the country’s ranking in world indexes, and ensure that the gains were sustainable in the long run.
