Age Limit: Recruitment ad found discriminatory

LAHORE: Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the Lahore High Court on Monday set aside an advertisement by Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) wherein relaxation in the upper age limit was denied to private applicants for various posts. In a detailed judgment, the court directed the PPSC to re-evaluate and re-determine the upper age limit for applicants after consulting all stakeholders and to issue a fresh advertisement. The petitioner had contended that applicants have, in the past, gotten various relaxations including concession in upper age limit, for different vacancies at the Service and General Administration Department. He said the posts advertised this year did not allow an upper age concession to private applicants, although it was available to civil servants, which was a discrimination and violation of the Constitution.
