Four men allegedly raped a widow in a house within the limits of Gujar Khan police station on Tuesday.
The woman informed the police that she lived in a rented house near Galyana Morr and was on her way back from Gujar Khan city where she had gone to buy groceries. “A rickshaw driver named Naveed Ahmed and his brother Haroon Ahmed were standing there. They said they would drop me home if I need a ride. I got into the rickshaw, but they took me somewhere in a house where two other men named Waqas Ahmed and Rizwan Ishtiaq were already present,” she said.
She added that they also snatched her handbag and Rs7,000 and sexually abused her.
Police registered a case and arrested the four suspects. The medical examination of the woman is also being carried out.
Superintendent of Police, Saddar Ahmed Zanir Cheema, while praising the Gujar Khan Police, said that incidents of physical abuse and violence against women and children were intolerable, and Rawalpindi Police were following zero-tolerance policy and committed to bring such culprits to justice.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi district police conducted raids in different areas and netted nine accused for possessing illegal weapons.
According to a police spokesman, City police held Amirullah and Waseem for having two pistols and ammunition.
Wah Cantt police netted three accused namely Adnan, Siraj and Amir and recovered three pistols and ammunition from their possession. Civil Lines police also rounded up an accused named Subhan with a 30 bore pistol and ammunition. Similarly, Saddar Wah, Mandra and Rawat police arrested Muhammad Ahsan, Abdul Ghaffar and Bilal Saeed and recovered two 30 bore pistols, ammunition and an iron punch from their possession.
Separate cases have been arrested against all the accused while further investigations are under process, he added. Senior Superintendent of Police, Operations Rawalpindi Waseem Riaz Khan said that strict action in accordance with the law was being taken against lawbreakers.
