RAJANPUR:

Provincial Minister for Food and Energy Sardar Hasnain Bahadar Khan Dreshak directed the district administration to strengthen embankments along Mubarak canal, to protect Rajanpur city from floods.

The provincial minister reached Mubarak Canal on the west side of Rajanpur, accompanied by officers and heavy machinery to protect the city from flood damage. The minister said that people in Rajanpur district suffered irreparable damage due to the natural disaster and added that the Punjab government’s timely measures to address the situation were commendable.

The process of distributing food and essential items to flood victims was underway, as were efforts to rescue them.

The provincial minister also met flood victims and inquired about the assistance they received from the government. The flood victims expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the government.

Speaking to the flood victims, the provincial minister said that the government stood with flood affected people during this testing time and will not let them feel deprived, nor will they sit peacefully until the people can return to their homes.

Provincial Minister Dreshak, while talking to the media, said that the flooding of the Indus River, particularly in the districts of Rajanpur, DG Khan and in the Koh-e-Suleman Mountains, affected a large number of people and completely devastated agricultural land and drowned livestock.

He said that the Punjab government had accepted the difficult task of providing relief and safety measures as a challenge. Dreshak added that the Pakistan Army was actively working along with Punjab government rescue teams, in order to evacuate people to safe zones and provide them accommodation, three meals a day and essential life items.

He added that due to the record-breaking, heavy rains, relief efforts were more difficult.
