LAHORE:

No noticeable addition in gas fields, spiralling receivable of more then Rs20 billion from public and private sectors and annual maintenance of major gas fields will triple gas load shedding in winters, said Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Managing Director Arif Hameed.

This will result in three-day closure of CNG and industrial sector, he added.

Hameed while briefing the media personnel said that consumption starts to pick up in October onwards due to increased usage of heaters. He said that domestic sector gas consumption will increase from approximately 500 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) in summer to more than 1,100 mmcfd in winter. Total demand currently on the SNGPL network is 2,200 mmcfd against supply of approximate 1,900 mmcfd , creating a shortfall of 300 mmcfd, however, during winter this shortfall shall increase to more than 950 mmcfd, he said.
