Four remanded in student’s torture case

Another accused in the case, a woman, was sent behind bars

Four accused, who had been arrested on Tuesday in the case filed by a female medical student, were remanded in police custody on Wednesday for two days.

Another accused in the case, a woman, was sent behind bars.

The complainant in her case filed with the Women Police Station on Tuesday alleged that a mill owner, Sheikh Danish, along with his armed accomplices, Faizan, Shoaib and Khan Muhammad, had barged into her home in the University Town after she had refused to marry him.

He kidnapped her and a brother of hers and took her to his house in Paradise Valley, tortured her, cut her hair, raped her and forced her to lick his shoes, alleged the complainant.

After registering the case, the police had raided the house of Maham Bibi, the accused Shoaib, Asghar, Faizan, Tayyab and the main accused Sheikh Danish and arrested them.

During the raid, a huge amount of liquor and weapons were also allegedly found in the house which the police seized.

The police registered a case against the main accused, Sheikh Danish, in the Kharrianwala Police Station under liquor provisions and produced the accused in the court of Duty Magistrate in Jaranwala, Asifa Jabbar.

The police requested judicial remand of the accused, Sheikh Danish, for 14 days, which the court rejected and granted the accused bail in the liquor case against a bond of Rs50,000 and ordered him to appear in the court again on August 31.

In the torture case, the police presented Maham Bibi, Shoaib, Asghar, Faizan and Tayyab in the court of Judge Raja Ali Raza who ordered sending of Maham to jail.

The remaining four accused, Asghar, Shoaib, Faizan and Tayyab, were handed over to the Women's Police Station on a two-day remand.

As the main accused Sheikh Danish was arrested in the alcohol case, his arrest was not registered in the torture case.

Meanwhile, according to Sub-Inspector Muhammad Umar Mirza, the spokesperson for the City Police Officer, Umar Saeed Malik, teams had been formed under the leadership of the SP of Iqbal Town, Hafiz Kamran Asghar, to arrest the remaining accused in the torture case.
