Independence Day’s celebratory aerial firing leaves 31 injured in Karachi

Police promised to keep city peaceful but miserably failed to stop crime and shooting incidents

Stray bullets injured at least 31 people due to aerial firing on the eve of Independence Day in Karachi, officials confirmed.

Most of the injured were initially shifted to private hospitals. After being provided with first aid, they were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital for the police surgeon’s report necessary for legal formalities.

On the occasion of Independence Day, at midnight on Saturday, the city echoed with the sounds of gunfire. The police, which had earlier claimed to make the town a cradle of peace, miserably failed to stop the crime and shooting incidents across the city.

A woman was injured in aerial firing near Rahat Malik Shop, Phase-II of DHA, and was shifted to the JPMC for medical assistance. The injured was identified as Shazia, 35.

One person was injured in aerial firing near Habib Bank Limited’s Karachi Administration Society Branch at Mahmoodabad within the limits of Tipu Sultan. He was shifted to the JPMC for medical assistance. The injured was identified as Imdad, 40. One person was injured in a firing in the Firdous Colony of Gulbahar in Nazimabad. He was shifted to the ASH for medical assistance. The injured was identified as Ayaz Ahmed, 35. A woman was injured in the aerial firing on Al Falah Road, Street No. 14, Lyari Bihar Colony area of Chakiwara. The injured woman was shifted to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital and was identified as Afshan, 26. A girl was injured in aerial firing near Mola Madad Bus Stop in the Chakiwara area of Lyari. She was shifted to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital for medical assistance and identified as Ayesh, 15. Another person was injured in aerial firing in Baloch Mohalla, Street No. 14, Block-C of Shershah. He was shifted to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital for medical assistance.

The injured was identified as Hidayat, 48. A child and a boy were injured in aerial firing near Mustafa Mosque, Shah Faisal Colony No. 3, Sector 9/A1.

The injured were shifted to the JPMC. Police said the injured were identified as Faisal, 23, and Muhammad Karim, 14. A boy was injured in an aerial firing near Farooqi Mosque in the Mujahid Colony area of North Nazimabad. The injured boy was shifted to the ASH for medical assistance and was identified as Imran, 14. A person was injured in the aerial firing in the Azizabad area and was shifted to the ASH for medical aid. He was identified as Amanullah, 25. A woman was injured in aerial firing near Baitul Mukaram Mosque in Gulshan Iqbal area of Aziz Bhatti and was shifted to a private hospital for medical assistance and was identified as Zubaydah, 22.

One person was injured in the air, firing in the Keamari area of Jackson. He was shifted to Dr Ruth KM Pfau civil hospital for medical assistance. According to the police, the injured person was identified as Rizwan, 27. A girl was injured in aerial firing in City Court Pan Mandi Ganga Bai Compound of Risala. She was shifted to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital for medical assistance. The injured was identified as Alishba, 17. One person was injured in aerial firing in Urdu Bazar behind Radio Pakistan in Aram Bagh. He was shifted to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital for medical assistance.

According to the police, the injured person was identified as Dildar, 58. A woman was injured in aerial firing in the Soldier Bazar area and shifted to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital for medical assistance. She was identified as Qizun Bibi, 30. One person was injured in aerial firing in Bantwa Nagar, located behind Bandhani Colony in Liaquatabad. He was shifted to the ASH for medical assistance. According to the police, the injured person was identified as Farid, 14. A person was injured in aerial firing in the Garden area and was shifted to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

The injured was identified as Shah Zaman, 25. One person was injured in aerial firing near the Native Jetty Bridge in the Keamari area of Jackson. He was shifted to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital for medical assistance and identified as Sharjeel, 40. One person was injured in aerial firing near Lyari’s Bakra Pedi area of Kalakot. He was shifted to Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital for medical assistance. The injured person was identified as Gul Muhammad, 50. One person was injured in the aerial firing in the Gulzar Society area of Shah Faisal Colony. He was shifted to the JPMC for medical assistance. According to the police, the injured person was identified as Shahrukh, 26. One person was injured in aerial firing near Television Center on Stadium Road in the New Town area. He was shifted to a private hospital for medical assistance. The injured was identified as Murtaza, 18.
