Punjab to build three world-class arenas

CM lauds wrestlers, athletes over medals in international contests

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi announced on Saturday that sports arenas of international standard would be built in Gujranwala, Multan and Lahore.

The chief minister gave Rs1 million each to wrestlers Zaman Anwar and Sharif Tahir for winning silver medals and Rs500,000 to Ali Asad for his bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games.

He said players would be provided facilities of international standard in the three planned sports arenas in the province.

Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi also announced that wrestlers would be sent abroad for training by foreign coaches.

He lauded and felicitated the three wrestlers for winning medals in the international event. Players like Anwar, Tahir and Asad were an asset of Pakistan and Punjab government would encourage them, he added.

The chief minister also congratulated javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem for winning a gold medal in the Islamic Solidarity Games also after the Commonwealth competition.

In a message, the CM appreciated Nadeem for winning the two gold medals and said he had given a gift to the nation on the 75th Independence Day. The whole nation took pride in the continuous victories of Arshad Nadeem, he said, expressing hope that the athlete would maintain the continuity of his victories.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi felicitated the nation on the Independence Day and said the country had come into existence owing to the sacrifices of hundreds of thousands of martyrs.

He saluted the exemplary sacrifices of the martyrs of Pakistan movement. “This day provides us an opportunity to pay homage to all the brave sons who laid down their precious lives while safeguarding the frontiers of their dear homeland,” he added.
