Special drive kicks off to remove wild bushes

CDA removing plants that have sprouted up following monsoon rains

ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has started to remove wild bushes and grass which have grown as a result of the recent rain spells.

“The wild bushes and shrubs not only ruined the scenic beauty of Islamabad but also had the potential to become breeding grounds for dengue larvae. Therefore, they are being removed on a priority basis,” said CDA Director General Environment Irfan Niazi.

He said that during the first phase, the CDA teams will remove grass and bushes from the main roads, particularly from the green belts, median strips, and different ‘marakiz’, adding that the residential areas and streets would be cleaned at the end. Workers and special grass-cutting machines were being used to accomplish the task, he added.

In this regard, special teams were formed, and their performance was monitored on a daily basis. To a query, he responded that the plantation drive was also underway and thousands of saplings of local plant species were planted in coordination with the climate change ministry and non-governmental organisations.
