Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, chief of Karachi chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), has warned the government that his party would call a strong protest over the government's inability to handle the civic crises in Karachi, particularly after the recent monsoon rains.
Addressing a press conference at the JI Karachi headquarters on Saturday, he said that in the near future, his party would be announcing a new phase of the Karachi Rights Movement. The PPP government in Sindh has kept Karachi purposefully deprived of its mayor under the influence of a feudal mindset that prevails in the party, he said.
The JI leader said that Sindh Local Bodies Minister, Nasir Hussain Shah's apology was insufficient as the people in Karachi wanted accountability of the Rs5,000 billion development budget allocated during the past 14 years.
He said that the conspiracy to keep Karachi deprived of its elected mayor and further delaying the local government elections will not be tolerated at any cost.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman regretted that unfortunately Karachi was not on the agenda of any political party.
