As Ms Marvel takes centre stage, have you ever wondered which South Asian actor could play Caption Marvel to perfection if Brie Larson hadn’t already landed the role? To be honest, neither have we. But filmmaker duo Russo Brothers were recently asked the same and presented only two options, and they knew exactly who to pick.
When Anthony Rosso and Joe Russo arrived in India for the promotions of their film The Gray Man, the filmmakers were given a choice between Bollywood actors Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. “Who’d make a better Captain Marvel?” they were asked. Without hesitation, the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame makers chose Priyanka.
"We have to go with Priyanka. (We are) Huge fans, big fans,” they confessed. “We are very good friends too. And we are working on a project with her, producing the show, Citadel,” they added. The video was shared on PC fan pages. And while many of you have your reservations, people in the neighbourhood seem to agree.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Russo Brothers have been bonding over their collaboration in Citadel, as per India TV. It is being created for Amazon Prime Video and also stars Richard Madden. The actor wrapped up the shoot of the upcoming spy-thriller series last month. She had also taken to Instagram to write, "And it's finally a wrap! Thank you to everyone who made this mammoth task possible and fun. Thanks Atlanta. See you next time."
Oscar-winning actor Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, on the other hand, had a smooth take-off in the marvel universe. The project introduced MCU’s first standalone female-franchise title character, Carol Danvers or Captain Marvel, essayed by Larson. It follows Danvers' journey as she becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes. The film released in March 2019.
Challenging the notion that female superheroes can't hold strong on their own at the box office, the film joined its superhero counterparts in the 'billion dollar' club in April. Captain Marvel’s cast includes Samuel L Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
Captain Marvel 2 is scheduled to release soon. It will see Brie Larson reprise her role as Captain Marvel, with Nia DaCosta ('Candyman') taking the director’s chair.
