Owner of Collapsed Building in Musa Colony Arrested

The condition of buildings across the city is not up to the mark

KARACHI:

Gulberg police arrested Aamir Baba, the owner of the six-storey building that had collapsed in Musa Colony a few days ago.

The District Central Police spokesman says that the arrested accused, Aamir Baba is a former police officer who had sold the said plot to a builder.

According to the spokesman, during the preliminary investigation, the arrested accused revealed that he had purchased two plots numbered 1113 and 1114 from a person named Israr for Rs10 million; later, he sold the said plots to the builder named Jawad.

The accused, in his statement, said that builders Jawad, Yaqub and Asif used to deal with Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and Karchi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and other civic bodies.

He said they constructed different apartments in the depilated building and sold these for Rs250,000 to Rs300,000.

Police say that the accused, Aamir Baba, is also a broker and had also made a deal for some apartments in the collapsed building.

SHO Gulbarg Imtiaz Tanoli, on contact, said that the arrested accused was handed over to the Investigation Police for further investigation, and the investigation police will take further legal action by determining the other persons involved in the construction of the collapsed building after a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, a heavy contingent of SBCA officials and police reached to demolish a four-storey building near the building that collapsed a few days ago in the Musa Colony area of ​​Gulberg.

Many locals gathered at the site to protest the demolition since they claimed the building was in good condition and had no defects.

However, the SBCA officials say the building is crooked and needs demolishing.

Meanwhile, DC Central was also present along with his staff on this occasion while a heavy contingent of police was deployed in view of any untoward situation. Negotiations between the protestors and SBCA officials continued until the last reports.
