HYDRABAD:

The Sindh United Party’s leader Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, who is also convener of Sindh Action Committee, has rejected the appointment of Chairman Sindh Public Service Commission on the political basis.

In a statement Shah alleged that Muhammad Waseem has been appointed as the chairman SPSC to pander to the political wishes of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan.

“Implementation over agreement between Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan has started,” he argued, referring to the pact signed by the coalition partners at the center including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. The Sindh government notified Waseem’s appointment on July 21 and on July 23 he took oath of his office from the acting governor Agha Siraj Durrani.

Waseem is a retired ex-PCS officer of grade 22. He graduated in economics and business administration from the Karachi University and IBA Karachi, respectively. He also holds a bachelors of law degree from the KU. Before his retirement, he served as the additional chief secretary (development) and as senior member board of revenue.

The SUP’s leader maintained that first the Sindh government approached the Election Commission of Pakistan to postpone the second phase of local government elections in Sindh to please MQM-P and later the position of SPSC chairman was also given to the party’s recommended officer. “SPSC is an organisation whose transparency has also been questioned by the Supreme Court,” he said.

“The government had earlier turned the SPSC into the Peoples Party Service Commission to dole out jobs against merit.” He went on to allege that after Waseem’s appointment the jobs will be distributed again on political basis among the people associated with both the parties.
