‘Drunk cop’ beats up labourer

Victim claims he was thrashed when he asked policeman to stop abusing

An allegedly drunk police constable beat up a labourer, breaking his jaw.

Police registered a case against the accused and started searching for him.

In the case filed by Shaukat Masih, a resident of Mohalla Dawood Nagar, it was stated that his son, Aqeel Masih, had been working at his brother's house in 225 RB Malkhanwala.

During a break from work, he went to the market to buy some cigarettes.

Meanwhile, Constable Abid Gujjar and his companion, who had been posted in the Civil Line Police Station, appeared on a motorcycle which bore a number plate that said “Applied for Registration”, said the complainant.

He alleged that Constable Abid Gujjar had been drunk.

Shaukat Masih stated in his complaint that Abid Gujjar intercepted his son and asked his name. As soon as he learnt about the name of his son, the constable started humiliating him and called him “Chuhra”. Masih said that the constable and his companion continued to abuse his son.

Shaukat Masih told the police that when his son could bear no more insults, he asked the constable to stop abusing him.

Shaukat Masih said that the constable had not been expecting to be challenged. As a reaction he beat him up his and broke his jaw. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital. Saddar Police registered a case against two persons, including their colleague, in light of the medical examination report and started searching for them.

In August last year, three people, including two police officials, were booked for allegedly kidnapping and torturing a man in Dijkot. The suspects allegedly took the victim to a police station at the behest of his opponents and demanded Rs1.5 million in extortion from him.

According to the police, Muhammad Nadeem Minhas filed a case in this regard, stating that, “When I went out after Isha prayers in Kachehri Bazaar, two policemen conspired with Amjad Gujjar and kidnapped me at gunpoint, tortured me and demanded Rs1.5 million in extortion”.

The victim also alleged that he was taken to the police station and locked up.

Reportedly, the suspects recorded a video of the victim to get a statement in accordance with their desire and forced him to sign and apply thumbprint on a blank paper.

They also took Rs42,000 out of his pocket, withdrew another Rs40,000 through his ATM cards and forced him to sign blank cheques, the complainant alleged.

Kotwali police registered a case under different sections of the PPC, including 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) and 384 (Punishment for extortion).
