QUETTA:

Having played havoc in Dera Bugti’s Pir Koh area and in the distant hinterlands of Barkhan, Cholera outbreak has been reported in the Zhob district of Balochsitan.

At least two people died of cholera and over three dozen were infected by the disease on Thursday in Zhob, including women and children.

“In the last 48 hours, we have provided medical treatment to over three dozen patients,” Medical Superintendent, District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Zhob Dr Noorul Haq told The Express Tribune.

Most of the patients were discharged after being provided treatment. However, the condition of six patients was stated to be critical.

“We fear a rise in cholera cases in the aftermath of rains and flash floods in the district,” he warned. He said the use of contaminated water was the major reason behind the spread of cholera in the area.

When asked about the availability of medicines, Haq informed this correspondent that the hospital administration was facing problems because of restricted drugs supply. The outbreak has come almost a week after cholera claimed two lives in Balochistan’s Barkhan district.
