Three accomplices of slain robber arrested

Police on Sunday claimed to have killed an alleged robber during an encounter in the Dhamyal area of ​​Rawalpindi.

Police also claimed to have arrested three accomplices of the slain robber while one of the alleged robbers escaped.

According to the police, the alleged car-snatching gang of robbers was also involved in snatching Rs8.3 million from a cash van about a month and a half ago.

On a tip-off that the robbers have snatched a car from a citizen, a patrolling police team spotted the vehicle and signalled the occupants to stop. The suspects instead of stopping the car opened fire on the police team, police said.

The police retaliated and during a crossfire, one robber, who was later identified as Naqeeb, was killed while his three accomplices, identified as Shaukat, Hashim and Kamran, were arrested.

According to the police, the snatched car and weapons were also recovered from the possession of the suspects while one accused escaped from the scene.

Dhamyal Police Station House Officer Owais Akram claimed that the slain robber and his accomplices were involved in several robberies. He said that after gathering evidence from the encounter scene, the body of the robber was shifted to the hospital for an autopsy.

According to the preliminary investigation, the SHO said, the same accused were involved in snatching Rs8.3 million from a cash van after killing the driver, Nisar, in the Dhamyal area a month and a half ago. The police official said that raids were being carried out to arrest the fleeing accomplice of the robbers.
