The Rawalpindi Cantonment Rawalpindi has increased monthly water charges by Rs100 even though the residents get water every alternate day.
The densely populated areas of RCB including Tench Bhatta, Ghaffar Kayani Road, Mughalabad, Adara, People's Colony, Dhok Chaudhry, Range Road, Dhok Banaras, Dhok Gujran, Dhok Syedan Road, Masrial, Naseerabad, Westridge, Allahabad Seham and other areas have been facing an acute shortage of water as the board supplies water from tube wells every alternate day
This has left the residents of these areas to dig their own boreholes or purchase water from private tankers at exorbitant rates. The sale of water by private tankers has become a lucrative business. Citizens have to buy a small water tanker for Rs700 and a big tanker for up to Rs1,200.
On the other hand, the water supply from the tube wells has also fallen due to the plummeting level of groundwater, while 9 million gallons of water daily is being supplied to the area from Khanpur Dam amidst increasing demand for the essential commodity in the sweltering heat.
