A Station House Officer (SHO) and his constable son in Peshawar were caught on Tuesday allegedly with 12 kilogrammes of heroin in their possession, with both believed to be linked with an inter-provincial narcotics smuggling ring.
The accused, Muhammad Shoaib and his son Abidullah, had been deputed in the Khyber tribal district of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, with the former overseeing Mulagori police station.
According to Peshawar police officials, Shoaib was allegedly caught “red-handed” at the Zakori bridge while attempting to transport a large cache of heroin in his car.
Following their arrest, both the accused were booked and an investigation initiated against them.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Ijaz Khan told The Express Tribune that the accused has been suspended.
He added that “criminals who use police as a refuge for their activities won't find any place to hide”.
Khan directed departmental proceedings in addition to the criminal proceedings against the accused.
Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Lt Commander (retd) Kashif Aftab Abbasi also vowed that there won't be any concession for such criminals and black sheep within the department.
He further said that a comprehensive crackdown against elements involved in drugs, anti-social activities, land occupation mafia and other crimes would continue under which such elements are also being identified within the police department and other involved personnel will be arrested soon and made an example.
