RAWALPINDI:

Illegal constructions within the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) have once again popped up with the alleged connivance of the board’s officials.

Sources said that these illegal constructions are being carried out with the help of the same officials of the building control cell who were suspended for a month by the former Cantonment executive officer over illegal constructions under their patronage.

The sources said that during the tenure of the new Cantonment executive officer, some inspectors have been promoted to the posts of super checkers to check illegal constructions, who have turned a blind eye to constructions without building plans. These illegal constructions are going on in every ward of the Cantonment.

According to the sources, the building control cell staff issues notices to violators when the illegal construction is complete or 10 to 15 per cent of work remains to be completed.

At Ziaratwali Gali in Ward 8, an old house has been half demolished and a new one is being constructed instead and an upper floor is also being constructed. Two shops are also being built there.

According to sources, people start illegal construction late on Friday and complete it on the weekend when the RCB offices remain off.

An illegal house is also being built in Ward-8 near Afshan Colony in Qasim Market. Three more constructions are taking place in the same place.
