KARACHI:

The body of a woman, found at a deserted place in Manghopir, has been identified.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Mumtaz Begum, wife of Yasir, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal near Moti Mahal.

The victim was shot dead and her body was found at an area near W-22 Bus Stop in Wangi Goth within the limits of Manghopir police station on Monday morning.

Her four-year-old daughter was spotted crying beside her mother's body. Police reached the spot and sent the minor girl to children's home, run by a welfare organisation.

The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later sent to Chhipa mortuary.

According to police, the police recovered one shell and one live round from the spot.

Late last night, the Manghopir police registered a murder case and handed the case to the Investigation Police.

Police sent the fingerprints of the slain woman to NADRA and other agencies.

SIO Manghopir, Shamshad Hussain informed The Express Tribune that the victim also has a seven-year-old son, Sonu, whom she left at home while going out. He said police were trying to contact the woman's family. However, it would be premature to say immediately why the woman went to a deserted place and who was involved in her murder. Police are investigating.
