KARACHI:

The ongoing protest on the issue of performance allowance of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) employees has come to an end and a special note regarding the allowance has been sent by the FBR chairman to the federal minister of finance.

The special note said that the federal cabinet had approved 150 per cent allowance on salary for FBR officers but later on the FBR employees were excluded from the list of approved allowances on the grounds that they were already getting special allowances.

However, the special allowance for FBR employees has been frozen at 20 per cent of basic pay since 2015. On the other hand, employees of other departments are receiving special allowances and incentives as compared to FBR.

The special note states that incentives for employees of other government departments are 100 to 150 per cent of their basic salary. Therefore, special allowance for FBR employees is also requested to be increased to 150 per cent of basic salary because this decision of the government will affect the the work of FBR officers.

In the special note, the FBR chairman has proposed to eliminate the discrepancy in the pay structure and urged the finance minister to approve the relevant summary for the allowance of FBR officers to be submitted to the prime minister. With the approval of the proposed allowance, the privileges of FBR officers will be equal to the employees of FIA, NAB and other departments.
