KARACHI:

The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany has removed the Buddy Bear installed at the intersection near Quaid-i-Azam Residency of the city for repair and renovation, officials said.

A symbol of tolerance, global unity and friendship, the statue of symbolic Buddy Bear, installed at the intersection in front of Hotel Metropole, like other major cities around the world, could not withstand the harsh weather of the port city.

KMC officials confided that the colour of the buddy beer deteriorated due to lack of maintenance from the city authorities. Subsequently, the German Consulate officials got the statue removed. Consulate sources told The Express Tribune that the statue of Buddy Bear will be reinstalled after it is repaired and repainted. The statue of Buddy Bear, a gift from the German Consulate, was erected at the Quaid-i-Azam Residency Square as a symbol of world peace and friendship on May 8, 2019.
