Policewoman suffers acid attack

2 unidentified persons allegedly committed the attack during a robbery

KARACHI:

Two unidentified suspects threw acid on a police constable and her brother allegeldy during a robbery bid near Karachi Medical Centre, in the area of Sohrab Goth within the limits of Sachal Police Station on Friday.

According to police, Constable Gulzara Mushtaq was on her way on a motorcycle with her brother, Rizwan Mushtaq when two unidentified suspects threw acid on them near Karachi Medical Centre for offering resistance during a robbery bid and fled from the scene. Consequently, Constable Gulzara and her brother Mushtaq sustained serious burn injuries.

The victims were shifted to the burns ward of Dr KM Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital, while the police were investigating the matter further.

Sachal police station SHO Inspector Aurangzeb Khattak said that as per reports and eyewitness accounts, the initial investigation suggests that Constable Gulzara and her brother were injured by suspects for resisting a robbery bid. The SHO said that Gulzara's face and hands were burnt by the acid while her brother Mushtaq also suffered with burn injuries at his back.

He said that a case has been registered against unknown persons.
