While fans are excited to see a Pakistani-Muslim superhero in a Marvel series, they’re also waiting to find out what characters their favourite big-screen actors are playing in the miniseries. The series stars several Pakistani bigwigs, such as, Nimra Bucha, Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat and Samina Ahmed. We saw glimpses of Ahmed and Bucha in the trailers but now the wait is nearly over – at least with one character unveiled.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, who helmed the first two episodes of the series, took to Instagram with a clip that introduces Ahmed’s character as Kamala (Iman Vellani’s) Nani (maternal grandmother). The snippet begins with the 16-year-old video calling her Nani, having to ask her to place the phone further away from her face; a typical desi occurrence we can all relate to.
Nani then asks Kamala about the gifts she sent for her. To which, a very confused Kamala inquires about the bangle she's wearing in her hand; the one that'll make her Ms Marvel. Confused with the “weird” things the said golden bangle is making her do, Kamala questions Nani about its origin. “It belonged to my mother, Ayesha,” shares Ahmed in the clip. “The one who disappeared during the partition, my great grandmother Ayesha?” asks Kamala.
However, before Kamala could ask Nani any further questions about her great-grandmother’s disappearance, she hears her dad knock on the door. The clip ends with Kamala pointing at the door and a spark pushing the door close on its own.
The world of magic has begun in Ms Marvel and we can’t wait to see it in cinemas soon. Here’s hoping we get to see other characters soon too.
