Police have made public the criminal record of 674 accused including a couple who were allegedly involved in kidnapping, sexually abusing, blackmailing and also recording inappropriate videos of dozens of girls in Rawalpindi.
The criminal record of the accused has been made public with pictures and a complete profile of the criminal record.
A senior police official said that the purpose of publicising the criminal record of the perpetrators of heinous crimes such as sexual abuse through the police smartphone app is to create awareness among the citizens of the sexual abuse case. He said that 85 per cent of challans of the accused involved in rape cases had been submitted to courts with solid evidence.
The senior officer said that the Rawalpindi police have set up separate units at police stations to investigate rape and sexual abuse cases. He said that officers deployed at these units were experts in investigating cases against sex offenders.
The police officer said that the criminal record contained the DNA report, the profile of the accused, their fingerprints, colour, race and addresses. He said that the criminal record also contains the name of the couple who were arrested by the police in 2019 in the garrison city.
Accused Khair-un-Nisa along with her husband Qasim Jahangir used to rape and kidnap girls under the pretext of giving them jobs before they were sexually abused, and blackmailed by showing them their inappropriate videos.
The police officer said that the criminal record of the rape accused has also been shared with all provincial police so that they can also check their record against the accused and share complaints with the Rawalpindi police.
