An epidemic of diarrhoea and dysentery has spread across Sindh over the last few months. Thousands of cases of diarrhoea and dysentery are reported daily across the province, official data revealed.
According to the statistics released by the Sindh Health Department, 256,952 cases of diarrhoea have been reported in Sindh in the last three months.
The number of people infected with dysentery has risen to 33,428, while 294 cases of cholera were reported during the last three months.
As per government figures, more than 121,000 children under five-year of age and more than 135,000 children over five-year of age became infected with diarrhoea across Sindh in the said period.
In this regard, medical experts said that diarrhoea and dysentery are caused by scorching heat and the use of contaminated water.
Three people have died in the last three months due to heat stroke. Health experts have urged people to use boiled water, go to the hospital immediately in case of diarrhoea and dysentery, and avoid outdoor foods.
