Samsung has reportedly decided to shut down its LCD business in June, six months earlier than expected.

Originally, the company had planned on closing it at the end of 2020, but the pandemic saw a surge in demand for LCD screens.

The Korea Times reported that consumer interest in LCDs has faltered while they are more drawn toward display technologies such as Quantum Dot and OLED.

Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), a US market research firm, reported that LCD panel price index has fallen drastically since late 2021 and is down 60% year on year.

Samsung Display products were purchased by Samsung Electronics, which has recently partnered with overseas LCD suppliers from China and Taiwan. Moreover, smartphones have also shifted from LCD displays to OLEDs in recent years.

test | 2 years ago | Reply Samsung to discontinue LCD production in June. Don t stop production instead move that production to Pakistan with everything completely manufactured in Pakistan. I think Govt should give Samsung deal i know it is outdated but at least it will save Pakistan hundreds of millions of dollars and also people will not buy OLED or LEDS because they are expensive and so will government ban them. So let s start LCD manufacturing in Pakistan. We should give it a go. And South Korea should shift its other industries to Pakistan for cheaper manufacturing. Even outdated technologies can at least give little bit of hope to dying manufacturing in our country. And at the same time ban the import of latest and branded blah blah and blah.
