Armed men shot and injured a shopkeeper when he put up resistance while in a separate incident a man was robbed of Rs1.9 million in two incidents of robberies on Monday.

Police said that the first incident took place at the Sadiqabad police station's Haji Chowk area.

They added that robbers on a motorcycle looted Rs1.9 million from a man when he was leaving the bank after withdrawing money.

Police were investigating the incident when at the other location, two robbers broke into a shop on Saidpur Road near the Newtown police station and looted the shop. They also shot and injured the shopkeeper named Mudassir when he put up resistance.

The robbers fled after committing the crime. According to the police, Mudassir was shot twice.

After hearing the gunshots, locals reached the spot and shifted him to Holy Family Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.

Sources in the hospital said that the injured was shot in his abdomen and leg.

Police have registered separate cases in both the incidents and started an investigation.

Meanwhile, the police arrested seven alleged drug pushers and recovered 710 grams of hashish, nine liters of liquor and two bottles of liquor from their possession on Monday.
