Boy ‘kidnapped by stepgrandmother’ for Rs100m ransom recovered from Lahore

Two prime suspects have been taken into custody, according to police

The Anti-Organised Crime Cell of Punjab on Monday rescued a five-year-old boy kidnapped for ransom and arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the abduction.

Addressing a presser, DIG Investigation Kamran Adil said that the boy was rescued from Sarai Alamgir area.

DIG Adil, during the news conference, was accompanied by SP CIA Asim Iftikhar, SP Operations Saddar Hassan Javed Bhatti and other officers of the CIA.

He added that two prime suspects, identified as Sajjad and Akram, had been taken into custody along with two Kalashnikov and 1,000 bullets. The duo together with Owais, had executed the plan.

The DIG added that police teams were conducting further raids to arrest the absconding accused, namely Mehwish, Shahbaz and Owais.

The boy's stepgrandmother is also said to be involved in providing information about the victim's family. The accused had kidnapped the boy for a hefty amount of Rs100 million.

Detailing the incident, police officials said that the accused abducted the victim on the evening of May 13 from the Sundar Police Station Private Society Park where he was playing.

The suspects, riding a motorbike, travelled through nearby streets before shifting the boy to a hideout in the said area. Covering their faces, the suspects forcefully attempted to silence the victim.

As the child went missing, his father Ahmad Yar registered an FIR at Sunder police station on May 13.

Special teams were formed to arrest the suspect and recover the child. The suspects who had custody of the child had been constantly changing their locations, making it hard for the police to reach them.

The DIG vowed to arrest the remaining suspects soon and punish them as per the law.

Talking to media persons, the boy's father thanked the chief minister, inspector general and the CCPO Lahore and their team.
