Failure to present Dua Zehra in court lands Sindh IGP in trouble

SHC asks govt to replace Sindh IG with 'efficient' officer

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court, displeased at the provincial law enforcement's failure to present teen Dua Zehra in court, on Monday ordered acting IG Sindh Kamran Fazal to stop working. 

A petition regarding the alleged abduction of the teen was heard earlier today by a bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro. Despite court orders issued on May 12, the provincial police force failed to present Dua in court. 

The court stated that the report submitted by the top police official of Sindh was 'unrealistic' and was rejected.  

The charge of IG Sindh should be given to a "competent" officer, said the court and directed the Establishment Division to give its opinion on whether or not Fazal is eligible for the post.

"We think it is better to leave this issue to the administration", remarked the judge.

During the last hearing, Fazal had said that Punjab Police had been contacted and it is learned that the girl has been transferred to KP.

In a previous statement, Dua's father Mehdi Kazmi while talking to the media had said that IGs of three provinces had failed to rescue his daughter.

"A month and eight days have passed. So far, the police are doing the paperwork only. The police are not making any efforts. I will believe that the police have worked only when they bring my daughter" he had stated.

Kamran Fazal was appointed as acting IG Sindh after Mushtaq Mahar was transferred amid a rise in terror incidents in Karachi earlier this month.
