RAWALPINDI:

The youth of Kahuta tehsil have launched an awareness campaign to protect the environment and forest trees.

Forests and trees in Kahuta Tehsil of Rawalpindi have recently been severely damaged by wildfires. To keep the environment clean and save the forests and trees, the youth of Kahuta has started an awareness campaign to save forests and trees on the platform of Tehreek-e-Kahutian Youth in collaboration with the Kahuta assistant commissioner. The youth have also put-up banners and signboards on trees to raise awareness among the public to protect the forest and trees.

These banners and signboards contain slogans such as “don't throw lit cigarettes and match sticks”, “ensure the safety of valuable forests and trees”, “do not cut down trees”, and “do not burn them or cause damage”.

The youth movement has also given suggestions to the tehsil and district administration about the protection of forests, which was appreciated by the administration and residents of the area.

Usman Mughal, a founding member of the awareness movement and a social activist, said: “The movement was started a year-and-a-half ago when the Kahutian youth protested for their rights.”

Raja Nasir Mowara who heads the movement said that it was completely apolitical, working to resolve public issues and keep the environment clean. It also campaigns on social media sites for the protection of forests and the environment, he said.
