More than 125 workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were released from Adial jail on Friday after they were taken into custody prior to the party’s long march on the federal capital.

The PTI workers had been detained under the maintenance of public order ahead of the party’s long march.

Authorities had detained over 200 PTI officials and workers from the federal capital and four districts of the Rawalpindi division. Of them, a total of 170 officials and workers were arrested from the Rawalpindi division. Out of the arrested workers, 82 workers were arrested from Rawalpindi district, 55 workers from Chakwal district, 31 from Jhelum district and two from Attock district while 48 officials and workers were arrested from Islamabad.

Around 77 officials and workers arrested from Rawalpindi and 48 officials and workers from Islamabad were shifted to Central Jail Adiala Rawalpindi. The workers arrested from Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum were detained in district jails.

After the situation returned to normal in the twin cities, the Rawalpindi administration withdrew the arrest orders of 86 PTI workers under the 3 MPO.

The Islamabad administration has so far released 48 prisoners including three prisoners from other districts. Authorities said that a total of 125 people had been shifted from the twin cities to the Adialajail and all of them have been released.
